Where is my power?

As we go through each day thousands of thoughts pass through our mind. Some of those thoughts become desires and when we decide to act on those decisions they manifest as our reality. Everything starts in this way, which we can call “the line of creation”, which is the process we follow to create the reality we have today. (thoughts -> desires -> decisions)
Below the line
More often then not however, we do not take responsibility for acting on our decisions, and instead find ourselves in expectation that he or she “should” do X, or reality “should” be different. We make assumptions that as a manager they should know to acknowledge you and give you an increase, or if your spouse loved you then you should not have to tell them what you want.
When our expectations or assumptions do not come true, it often leads us to disappointment, and we go into reaction. (decisions -> expect) We resist reality making whatever is happening wrong and end up in resignation. Reaction can be expressed as anger, or complaint, frustration or withdrawal. Resignation is a space where we come from “Nothing makes a difference so why bother?” And so the cycle continues. (thoughts -> desires -> decisions -> expect -> assume -> react -> resist -> resignation...)
In a parallel process, the moment we go into expectation about what another should or should not do, we are in denial, denying our own responsibility for what has transpired or not. Disappointment is a result of feeling let down and making the situation wrong. From here we find ourselves moving into despair where we start to lose hope, and in order to avoid feeling this we disconnect, we checkout and find alternative ways to keep us distracted.
This process is one of unconscious reaction. Here we find ourselves living as victims, constantly in reaction to the outer circumstances. This is when we live in an external locus of control, where we hand over our happiness and power to life. If he/she/life responds like I want, I am happy and in my power. If not, I am not. Here we come from a powerless position, and identifying that we're here let's us know we need to do some inner self-development work as all of this will continue unless we choose differently.
Above the line
To come from an internal locus of control, which is where you determine what happens and how you respond in life, at the point where you decide you want something to manifest, you need to make a conscious choice to act on your decisions. (thoughts -> desires -> decisions -> choose -> act)
To choose is an act of creation (versus reaction). It implies we stay curious and creative until we find a way to move forward. When we act on our decisions it is often powerful to communicate it to those around you. When people know what your intentions are they feel empowered to support you in your endeavours.
Many people do not have a problem starting something; it’s being able to sustain sourcing when you don’t feel like it anymore that counts more. We need to learn to source (generate input) irrespective of what comes our way. When we can sustain this, and continue to act independent of our thinking and feeling, we will reap the results. (thoughts -> desires -> decisions -> choose-> act-> source-> sustain-> result.)
This process can feel terribly challenging, so we need to develop a high level of compassion for ourselves and for others who are with us on the journey. When we reach the result let it be a celebration of the collaboration. We seldom achieve things in isolation, and there is great joy in being able to acknowledge those who supported you along the way.
This way is conscious choice. This way we “be” the change we want to see in the world. This way we demonstrate a high internal locus of control.
